About Us

Looking for a lifestyle change we decided farm life in Denmark was the adventure we were after… The wine industry sounded intriguing, running cattle was a new venture for us and the opportunity to build a business while living in one of Australia’s most beautiful places we couldn’t pass up.

Graham came from a mining background and Kelly had worked in human services in Perth after moving to WA from New Zealand in 2000.  After much research and many trips from Perth to the South West in search of the perfect property we came upon Whitfield in 2005.   Since purchasing the property we have made many modifications to the farm and business including; building of a café/cellar door, establishing a highly regarded wine brand, developing the commercial herd of Murray Grey beef cattle to a reputable stud herd, varying vine pruning styles to allow more reliable ripening and creating a relaxing atmosphere for all our visitors to enjoy. Artfield Art is Kelly’s creative outlet where unused farm machinery and discarded items are bought back to life in abstract sculpture.

The cellar door was originally located in the carport and customers enjoyed gorgeous views across to Mt Lindesay, providing there was no washing on the line!  The café was built in 2008 allowing staff and customers the luxury of air-conditioning and comfortable seating.   Since opening, the café has evolved from a quaint 20 seat café to a vibrant 50 seat venue with the addition of house-made chocolates, local cheeses and nuts and many menu options that feature local produce. In 2010 the Pawprint Chocolate brand began.  Using fresh products incorporated with guality chocolate, the range provided a point of difference for visitors in the Scotsdale Valley.   With such a good take-up, the choclate was soon being produced on a larger scale and can now be found on shop shelves in WA and interstate.

In 2014 the business changed again and we purchased a property in Denmark township to produce our choclate from.  We had outgrown the farm site.  The Pawprint Chocolate shop can be found accross from the river at 3/10 Hollings Road, Denmark.  Fresh chocolate is produced daily and you're welcome to come in for a sample.

Our vision is to maintain the growth of our business with a focus on continuing to provide exceptional service, quality products and a country flavour to everything we do.

Enjoy it all…

Cheers, Graham and Kelly Howard
